How to Add A Product?

Before adding a product, let us get familiar with how product categories, tags, and brand works.

Product Categories

Product categories and tags work in much the same way as normal categories and tags you have when writing posts and blogs. They can be created, edited, and selected at any time.

  • To add a product category, go to Components->Products and click the Categories Most of the fields are self-explanatory.
  • Enter a name and description.
  • The slug field is optional. A slug is the part of a URL which identifies your category online in an easy to read form. Leave this blank for auto-generation.
  • The Icon and Image fields are optional. These are displayed on the category detail page.
  • Enter Meta information. Meta title, keywords, and description are actually HTML meta tags, and they go into your categories header. These are optional fields.
  • Enter a value for the priority field. You can change the order of your categories through the Priority field. Enter a lower value to display this category at the top.
  • Check the Status checkbox to make this category active immediately after Save.
  • Click the Save button to save your category.

Product Tags

Keywords and Tags are important words or phrases that people are likely to search for if they were looking for the product you are publishing. You can add tags/keywords in advance for suggestions.

  • Go to Content->Products->Tags and click the Add Tag button to add a new keyword.
  • Enter a name.
  • Check the Status checkbox and click the Save button.

Product Brand

Brands allows you to create brands for your shop, with a name, description and image assigned to each.

  • Go to Components->Products->Brands and click the Add Brand The interface looks and works similar to adding categories.
  • Enter a Name and Description. Image is optional.
  • Check the Status checkbox and click the Save

You can also modify brands by clicking over the name. Brands may also be re-ordered by specifying a value in the priority field.

How to Add a Product?

Go to Components->Products and visit the Add Product link.

You then have a familiar interface and should immediately feel at home.

The form has different tabs:

Tab 1: Basic Information

  • Select a Brand and enter a product Name.
  • Slug: The slug field is optional it is a part of the URL that identifies your product online in an easy to read form.
  • User: The user field is added for multi-vendor feature. Type a name and select from the list. It is a mandatory field, if there are no users on your website then select Admin as the owner of the product.
  • Categories: Select a category for your product.
  • Keywords: Type a word in the keywords field for suggestions. Use comma to add new keywords for this product. The new keywords must be set to active via Content->Tags to display them on the products page.
  • Cover: Add a main product image by clicking the Browse
  • Short Description: Enter a short description for your product. This is an excerpt which typically appears next to the product image on the products detail page.
  • Description: The long description appears in the Product Description tab.
  • Priority: Enter a lower value in the priority field to display this product at the top of the list.
  • Hits: The hits field displays the number of views of this page. Leave this default.
  • Highlight this product?: Check this checkbox to apply a different color background to this product. The color depends on the widget code.
  • Status: Select Active from the dropdown field to make this product live immediately after Save.

Tab 2: Ecommerce

  • Tax Settings: Select a Tax settings for this product. Default means the tax will be applied based on the user-selected country as defined in Financial->Tax Rates.
  • Tax Slab: You can define different taxes for different products. Use the Tax Slab dropdown to have a specific tax rate for this item. You can manage Tax Slabs via Financial->Tax Rates->Tax Slabs.
  • Price: Item’s normal/regular price.
  • Offer Price: This is the sale price after discount.
  • Stock: Enter the Stock Quantity. This is the quantity of an item that is currently available for sale.
  • Low Stock Level: Enter a low stock quantity. The owner of the product will be notified via email/SMS when the quantity is equals or below this level.
  • Refund Policy: You can enter a refund duration here. The refund duration is in days. If a customer is not satisfied with this product, within a specified number of days from the purchase date, the user may either return the purchased product for a full refund or exchange it for another product of equal value.
  • Max Qty: The maximum number of quantity that a user can add to the cart. Leave 0 for unlimited. If this is a software product, enter 1 here to allow the user to purchase single item at a time.
  • Request Quote URL: If you do not want to display the price to the user and want to redirect the user to the contact us page, enter a request quote URL here. The price field value must be set to 0.0001 to display the Request a Quote

Tab 3: Additional

  • Related Items: Among popular marketing tools used, related products seem to be the most effective and favorable by the store owner. Type and select similar products to display them on the product detail page. Best way to cross-sell items of a similar type.
  • Optional Items: Specify the optional items that you want to sell with this product. For example, if you want to sell a Mobile Application with your web application, enter it in the optional items field. All optional items will be displayed to the user on the checkout page for a quick purchase.
  • Linked Items: Linked items are similar to Optional Items. The only difference is that they are displayed in the member area after the purchase of this product. For instance, if you want to sell a theme to a user who purchased this item, create a product for your theme and enter it here. The user can buy the theme only after purchasing this product.
  • Demo URL: This is an optional field. If your product has a different URL for the demonstration, enter it here.

Tab 4: Subscription

Subscription tab is for those products where a customer must pay a subscription price to have access to the product or service and they get billed on a recurring schedule. Use this tab only if your product has a subscription e.g. annual membership, limited technical support, etc.

  • Ticket Support: Check this checkbox to allow support tickets on this product. A support ticket allows end-users or customers to send a query seeking information or submit a Support request.
  • Renewable: Subscription can be conveniently renewed at the end of your subscription term.
  • Recurring: Check to charge a user for this product over a set amount of time.
  • Renewal Price: The amount to be invoiced on subscription renewal. Use this field for a different renewal amount. The 0 means that the user must pay the amount specified under the eCommerce tab.
  • Invoice Expiry: How long will the invoice remain valid if not paid on the due date?
  • Days Before Next Invoice: Generate new invoice X days before the subscription expires. The X is the number of days you entered in this field.
  • Fixed Expiration Date: Leave blank for regular subscriptions, else all new subscriptions will expire on the date you set here.
  • Duration: Billing Period. Fill in this field if the Fixed Expiration Date is the default. The value is in days and it must be numeric.
  • Invoice Reminders: Number of days to wait before sending the expiration notification to the customer. Set zero for no reminders. The second and third reminders would be calculated based on the first and second reminders value.

Tab 5: Meta Information

A tab that describes and summarizes the contents of your page for the benefit of users and search engines.

  • Meta Title: This is the text you'll see at the top of your browser.
  • Meta Description: Enter a meta description that helps describe your page. This snippet of text appears in the search engine results under your headline. If not filled, search engines will pull a snippet of text from the main body copy of the page instead.
  • Meta Keywords: Enter keywords here in comma-separated values. These tags appear in the HTML code of your product page and help tell search engines what the type of product is.
